Do you know the story behind Thieves? Believe it or not, the name of this incredibly popular Young Living blend was inspired by actual thieves—grave robbers, in fact! In France during the 15th century, the bubonic plague was running rampant. As you can imagine, grave robbing isn’t the most sanitary of activities, so, according to legend, a band of thieves concocted a mixture of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals to protect themselves while they carried on with their plundering. Thankfully, you don’t have to be a grave robber to benefit from this essential blend. As it turns out, Thieves has been found to be a great way to fortify your immune system, reduce unpleasant odors, and clean your home. No wonder it’s one of Young Living’s most popular oils!
What’s in it?
Clove: A warm, fragrant scent that instantly reminds you of fall and the holiday seasons. The oil is steam distilled from the flower bud and stem of a tropical tree. It has a very rich, potent aroma and is often used in massage oils, personal care products, and bath mixes for its relaxing and energizing effect.
Eucalyptus Radiata: This oil is steam distilled from the leaves of an evergreen tree. It has a very fresh and invigorating smell. For this reason, it’s a great way to add a great burst of energy to your shower.
Rosemary: Steam distilled from a perennial shrub, this oil has a very woodsy and herbaceous aroma. It is often used to promote clarity and serenity.
Lemon: A very bright and uplifting aroma when diffused, the oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons. It's used in many cleaning products because of its refreshing scent.
Cinnamon Bark: This oil is steam distilled and has a warm, spicy aroma that's said to release feelings of abundance. It's an important ingredient in the Thieves blend because of its ability to eliminate odors.
How you can use it?
In the diffuser: This is a great way to fight nasty or stale odors in your home with a simple, purifying aroma. It’s especially nice in the fall, providing a warm, lightly spiced scent. You can mix with other oils as well to create fun blends!
Topically: Apply to the wrists or back of the neck for extra immune support. You can also apply topically to the bottom of the foot to calm the stomach.
Carpet cleaner: Add 5 drops of Thieves to baking soda, combine, and let sit overnight. Sprinkle lightly over carpet and vacuum.
Dishwasher boost: Add 3 drops to your dishwater or dishwasher to eliminate odors.
Immune support: Add 1 drop of Thieves Vitality in your tea, juice, or coffee, or add 1-2 drops to a vegetarian gel capsule as a dietary supplement. If you’re feeling unwell, try taking 1 drop of Thieves in a spoon of honey.
